Michelle Duggar on Jill Duggar-Derick Dillard Engagement: WOW!

Mother of 19 Michelle Duggar is speaking out on the engagement of daughter Jill Duggar to Derick Dillard, as seen on TLC's 19 Kids & Counting.

Speaking out, even as the life-changing event left her at a loss for words.

As it was happening, she writes, "Jim Bob and I are saying to ourselves, "Oh, wow!" We're realizing our girl is going to start a home and her own family."

"That's a big deal, especially for dad."

"[Jim Bob] is so happy for Jill and he really appreciates Derick and who he is. We know Derick is going to make a great husband and, hopefully, father."

Derick Dillard abided by the Duggar family dating rules (or "courting" as they call it) and asked for permission to propose to Jill from Jim Bob Duggar.

Having pushed the envelope with a full-frontal hug at the airport, he even asked Jim Bob if it was okay if he held hands with Jill Duggar post-engagement.

"We'd always encouraged them to set the standards for their relationship and then to keep those standards up front so that there's accountability," Michelle writes.

"Jim Bob said holding hands would be just fine."

As for the Jill Duggar-Derick Dillard proposal itself, the groom-to-be "wanted to make it really special for Jill ... He even got down on his knee."

"Derick said to Jill afterwards, 'You're my fiancée," and you would have thought Jill could have melted into a puddle. She said, 'I'm your fiancée. It sounds great.'"

And after they get married?

"Jill and Derick both have a dream to do international humanitarian work or mission work, as they call it," Michelle writes of the soon-to-be newlyweds.

"Whatever the Lord has for them, Jim Bob and I realize our kids will probably scatter all over the world ... I think they'll give us some interesting destinations to visit as grandparents!"

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are still working on that 20th kid.
